Animal welfare benefits
Wallabies are wild harvested. They are not fenced, drenched, handled, transported live, fed grains or processed products.
The RSPCA is on record as saying “Kangaroo (and wallaby) culling is considered one of the most humane forms of animal slaughter. An animal killed instantly within its own environment is under less stress than domestic stock that have been herded, penned, transported etc.” (RSPCA 1985).
All animals we process MUST be brain shot. Harvesters MUST be accredited. This means they have undertaken a TasTAFE course and been assessed in the field for competence. They have to comply with a detailed government Code of practice.
Multiple independent studies have demonstrated extraordinarily high levels of compliance with the Code.
Bennett’s wallaby are solitary, not mob animals. The harvest does not cause broader impacts on mob social structures.
Many animal welfare experts consider this system the most humane way of producing meat.
