Population sustainability

The Tasmanian Government has monitored wallaby density trends annually for the past 48 years. They use a highly refined technique for monitoring the health of the wallaby population. Wallaby densities vary with seasonal conditions, but their populations have steadily increased over the last 20 years despite the consistently high annual cull. Every year, many thousands of wallaby are culled on farm land under Crop Protection Permits.  Lenah utilises only 10% of the current cull.

There is still significant wastage and scope for industry expansion.
